Ten years ago Unisys was my client.  Working on a Personal Property or Online Self Service System project for Unisys I saw employees that were enthusiastic about their work and seemed to enjoy coming to work.  When there was an opportunity to join the Unisys team, I jumped at it! Now, I have been with Unisys for 6 years and have not been disappointed.

All of my projects have been challenging and has given me incredible growth of my technical and business skills and as a person. My career manager has been a tremendous supporter and continues to give me new opportunities to use my current skills, and generate new ones.

The best thing about Unisys Canada is the work atmosphere. It is all about doing your best, learning best practices and providing the best solutions to clients.

I joined Unisys directly from University because there was the promise of always working with leading edge technology and solutions in a variety of areas combined with the continuous learning potential. After almost three decades, that promise still holds true. It has been a never-ending opportunity to work on new solutions and new products with existing and new clients. I have had many experiences that would rate as the best over the last three decades, but the five months I spent working on a special project in Manila provided a window into the culture and people of the Philippines that I will never forget. The experience of working abroad on a large integration project that was at risk, and is fully deployed now, was very satisfying.

One of the best things about Unisys is the people. Every manager is aware of each person’s contributions and provides incredible support, and my manager is no exception. This very visible and often proactive support makes getting things done easier.  It validates being creative and innovative when he recognizes what we are doing and compliments us for doing it, trumpets our great work, and helps us through the occasional difficult, complicated or confusing patches so we can continue to be successful.

I am on my 2nd career with Unisys, in total 19 years. In 1990 I left Unisys to pursue a career in provincial government service. As a result of various project circumstances, I ended up working with the same Unisys team from Halifax that I left in the first place and felt like I was “back home”. Not one to ignore fate, in 1998 I seized the opportunity to re-join Unisys, relocate back to Halifax and to join the Atlantic Canada OnLine delivery team as an Infrastructure Manager.

Since I’ve been back, time has flown by!  I have been given numerous opportunities to work on major projects growing my skills as a project manager, HR manager and most-recently my technical skills in the hot “security” domain. Also, through its recruiting and staff retention programs, Unisys Canada has built a great team of skilled people for me to work with---not only in Halifax, but throughout Canada and world-wide.

I believe that Unisys Canada will continue to be an exciting place to work with plenty of opportunity for personal growth. That is why I’ve stayed, and will stay with Unisys Canada!

I joined Unisys in 1997 when I moved from Ontario to New Brunswick and began my career, at The Year 2000 Center in Fredericton. Today, I work remotely from my home office in New Brunswick and report into the Halifax, Nova Scotia office.  Over the last 10 years at Unisys, I have made many wonderful friends and acquaintances and have always been given the opportunity to grow professionally and take on new challenges. One of my most memorable work experiences was testing the Nashville Jail Management System in Reston, VA.  Although away from my family for six months, every effort was made by the entire team to make me feel welcome and at home. You don’t find this kind of support and thoughtfulness from companies today, which is why I am proud to be a member of the Unisys Canada team.
